Mauritania




Mauritania - is a state in the West Africa. It is washed by the Atlantic ocean from the West. It occupies the area of 1030,7 sq.km. Till 1960 Mauritania belonged to France. The official language is Arabic.

The only river is the border Senegal. The main part of the country is occupied with sandy and stony deserts of the West Sahara. The climate is tropic and desert. Average temperatures are 16-20°C in January and 30-32°C in July. The flora of the country is represented by separate trees, rare bushes. Among animals there are mountain goats, fox, jackal, also reptiles and various insects.

The modern population of Mauritania contains 2,2 million people and consists of Arabs and Berbers. Islam is a state religion. The capital and the biggest city is Nouakchott which was built 30-40 years ago. The second biggest city is port Nuadibu.
